东欧国家以前苏联为最早，1965年，俄联邦的首条U型玻璃生产线在波尔斯克玻璃厂投产，年产量为3万m2。随后，在鲍尔玻璃厂、红五月玻璃厂、切尔尼亚金玻璃厂、古雪夫玻璃厂、莫斯利石棉隔热材料联合公司等11家企业先后建起10多条U型玻璃生产线，到了1975年，前苏联的U型玻璃产量已达到400万m2。
前民主德国以及罗马尼亚、匈牙利、南斯拉夫、葡萄牙等国的U型玻璃生产，也大多始于60年代后期。阿尔及利亚奥兰玻璃公司一窑双线的U型玻璃于1992年年底投产，开创了非洲U型玻璃生产之先河。
